      Opening Times
Mon - Sat: 9.00-5.00 Sun: 10.30-4.30 | EMCY NEWS LETTER SPRING 2008
2008 got off to a brisk start, we have never opened in Jan before, but it proved to be very worthwhile with many of our loyal and keen customers taking advantage of the special deals and discounts available during the month.
Caroline sadly broke her ankle while pot-holing (as she puts it) but never missed a moment at Emcy and there were many times when she was in great pain and discomfort but she continued; always smiling, always helping - I for one am in admiration for her determination to carry on in all circumstances and am pleased to report that she has almost fully recovered.
Feb: we all enjoyed goodish weather during Feb and this reflected in another month of decent trade, all departments were producing acceptable figures.
March: Well what can we say about March? Back to winter conditions an Easter week end which can only be described as a complete disaster, certainly our industry relies on the “kick start” the Easter period normally brings, it just did not happen and many of my colleagues now predict very difficult trading times ahead.
Emcy as you know always remains positive and the team continues to source products locally and from around the globe in order to offer a vast range of goodies in all departments and as always at very competitive prices.
We have seen and continue to see many price increases in raw materials but through careful buying and keen pricing we will do our best to keep any rises to the absolute minimum.
The team at Emcy continues to evolve; Sammy our “girl Friday” has gone off to the bright lights of the city where you will find her in her element dealing with handbags and fashion in the House of Frazer. We wish her well and thank her for the contributions made while with us at Emcy she will be missed.
The tea room is developing along nicely Caroline along with the part time team of Terri, Rose, Nina, Sandra and Gill find themselves busy most days providing beverages and light snacks to satisfied customers. Caroline’s Sunday roasts are very popular, it’s lovely to see the tearoom so full of contentment on a Sunday afternoon.
Ken, Chris and Ralph are very busy now getting ready for the main planting season and you will see an ever increasing choice of plants looking good and ready for their new homes.
Richard and his famous drive thru are always in great demand, I shudder to think how many tonnes of composts and aggregates he loads day in and day out! Richard is our longest serving member of staff he has been with us over 17 years and only a couple or so of days off (other than holidays) in all that time, what a fantastic record Ol’partner it is very much appreciated.
The new show room will come into its own this year David tells me we now have over 50 separate “sets” of furniture to choose from and he believes that we must have something here to supply anybody who is in the market, together with barbeques, water features, stone products, terracotta pots, clothes, boots, gifts and housewares, I really can’t remember Emcy ever having such a huge range of stock to choose from.
Arlene is developing a new “pet corner” this is proving very successful and Lou spends his time trying to find space to display all the daily arrivals to their best advantage. I am sure you will all agree all is looking good and tidy .
I close these newsletters always stressing the importance of you the customer, this year with all the gloom and doom and poor economy being talked about it is even more crucial that we provide the service you require, if there are things you feel we need to improve please say so - we exist because of you and it is our priority to be of service to you our customers new and old.
We thank you for your continued support and let’s hope the weather breaks soon.
